Eva has been an educator since 2007 and she has been Nature facilitator since 2016. She was born in a small village near Barcelona, Spain, called Vilafranca del Penedès, between the Mediterranean Sea and the Montserrat mountains. Her mother tongue is Catalan, but she also grew up speaking Spanish and English. Her bachelor’s degree is from the Autonomous University of Barcelona as an Elementary & English language school teacher. She also has a master’s in Systemic Pedagogy by the Barcelona Gestalt Institute, and that has deeply shaped her understanding of each child as part of a larger family and relational system. Eva has helped many children unlock their natural curiosity, confidence, and capacity for learning by working with children and their families.
She came to Oakland in 2013 to teach in a dual immersion Spanish/English public school called Global Family Elementary, in the Fruitvale neighborhood. In 2016, in the midst of communal living and volunteering at a farm in Albany found out about Forest Schools and completed a teacher training with the Academy of Forest Kindergarten Teachers in Santa Barbara. She then became a part of Early Ecology Forest School, one of the first forest schools in the Bay Area, where she had the most precious and transformative time as an educator and a human. Later in 2022, she co founded Roots y Ramas Forest School where she is still a part of it.
Eva is also trained in non violent communication and has a practice of mindfulness and personal development to deepen her connection to the inner and outer cycles of life. Her creativity and purpose come alive when supporting young children in their development while we all continue to deepen our collective connection to Mother Earth and our communities.
Nido Enrichment is another step to bring access to Nature to children who are already in school so they can continue to build relationship with the urban Natural spaces in their cities while learning Spanish.
Elena, born and raised in Mexico, worked for over 10 years as a preschool and TK teacher at La Escuelita del Bosque in the Oakland Hills. Witnessing how young children learn while immersed in nature through all seasons has deepened her pedagogical approach rooted in respect, curiosity, and autonomy.
She also worked as an art teacher in after-school programs at Le Conte – Sylvia Méndez School, in collaboration with MOCHA (Museum of Children’s Arts), and led community playgroup programs in Fruitvale, supporting families and children in diverse, multicultural environments.
She is the proud mother of twin daughters, Luna and Sol, who graduated from Le Conte – Sylvia Méndez School. This personal experience strengthened her commitment to public and community-based education, as she actively volunteered in their kindergarten, first, and second-grade classrooms alongside teachers Ms. Bernal, Ms. Torres, and Ms. Aguas.
Elena holds a teaching credential, an Associate Degree in Fine Arts, and have received specialized training in Montessori early childhood education. These foundations have allowed me to integrate art, observation, and respectful guidance as core elements of my teaching practice.
